Which teams will Häcken face in the Champions League?
According to Aftonbladet, Häcken received a tough draw in the Women's Champions League. The Swedish club was placed in a group with European powerhouses Lyon, Chelsea and Manchester City. Lyon features former Häcken players Elma Junttila Nelhage and the injured Johanna Rytting Kaneryd. Chelsea have defender Nathalie Björn in their squad, while Olivia Schough plays for Inter.
Manchester City, the reigning English champions, are led by Swedish head coach Andrée Jeglertz and sporting director Therese Sjögran. Captain Anna Anvegård commented on the draw to Aftonbladet. "There will be several tough matches against good opponents, but it's always fun to be part of these occasions", she said.
Why won't Häcken face Felicia Schröder?
Unfortunately, Häcken will not have the opportunity to face Real Madrid and former star Felicia Schröder in the group stage. This is the second consecutive season the Women's Champions League is played in a league format with 18 teams, and the first time with Swedish participation. Häcken qualified directly after defeating Hammarby in last season's Europa Cup final.
The top four teams in the league advance directly to the quarter-finals, while teams five to twelve play in the round of 16. Matches will be played between 22 September and 16 December before the knockout stage draw. All teams play three home and three away matches. How did Häcken drop points against Malmö FF?
According to SVT Sport, Häcken looked set for their tenth consecutive victory in Damallsvenskan before Malmö equalised in the 94th minute. Maja Bodin, who scored a hat-trick in her first match for the club, gave Häcken the lead in the 22nd minute. The 24-year-old has now scored six goals in four matches wearing Häcken colours.
"It feels really good. Nice to go into half-time with a lead", Bodin told SVT Sport during the break. In the second half, captain Anna Anvegård suffered significant pain and had to be substituted. The club confirmed after the match that it was cramp.
What is the league situation after the match?
Häcken continue to top Damallsvenskan but now have Hammarby breathing down their neck, just two points behind. Malmö FF sit in third place, 16 points behind Häcken. MFF captain Mia Persson commented on the equaliser to SVT Sport. "We deserved a goal", she said. "It's a shame we don't have ten more minutes."
Häcken's Josefine Rybrink gave her analysis to SVT Sport after the 1-1 draw. "We get a very good start. But it's a battle throughout the whole match. A tough match, maybe 1-1 is fair", she said.
