Jennifer Falk was sent off in the dying minutes as Häcken suffered defeat in the Champions League. The goalkeeper saw red in the 89th minute of a 0-1 loss away to Inter, a dismissal that rules her out of the upcoming home fixture against Juventus.
Haley Bugeja decided the match early with a strike from outside the box in the fifth minute. Häcken pushed for an equaliser and Alva Selerud fired over the bar, but a goal never came. Falk had made several key saves prior to the decisive incident.
"Disappointed and frustrated," Falk told reporters after the final whistle. She added: "I put the team in a tough situation in the final minutes when we're trying to push for an equaliser."
With Falk off, 16-year-old Hanna Karlsson made her Champions League debut between the posts. The defeat comes during a stable period for Häcken in the domestic Allsvenskan, where the team sits fifth with 36 points from 22 games. Their last five results show two wins, two draws, and one loss.
The next league match is a home fixture against Örgryte IS on October 11th, a side currently sitting 15th in the table.
The loss in Italy marks a tough start to the group stage, and without Falk in goal, the task against Juventus becomes even harder. Häcken now return to league action with a squad missing Ben Engdahl and Filip Ohman through injury.
