Debut in 4-1 Victory
Joy Omewa made her debut for BK Häcken in a 4-1 win over AIK at Hisingen on March 15, 2024. She came on as a substitute and Häcken dominated the entire match. Maja Bodin led the offensive effort with a first-half brace: she opened the scoring in the fourth minute and doubled it in the 40th minute, giving Häcken a 2‑0 advantage at halftime. Tabby Tindell added a third goal in the 62nd minute, and Tilde Karlsson finished in stoppage time, 90+1, for a total 4‑1 result. AIK managed to pull one back, but Häcken maintained control and secured a clear home performance.
Omewa’s Journey to Häcken
The 23‑year‑old striker has recently left Nottingham Forest to settle in Sweden. She now has a contract with Häcken running through 2029, showing the club’s long‑term confidence in her talent. Omewa expressed her desire to spread positivity and energy in the team: "I want to contribute with joy – ‘Joy’ – just like my name."
Omewa began her football career in Nigeria with Confluence Queens at age 17. She then moved to Denmark, playing for B93 for a year. She then developed at Fortuna Hjørring for about four and a half years. After a short spell in England with Nottingham Forest, her move to Häcken marked a new step in her international career.
Future at Häcken
With a long contract and an already established debut, Omewa will focus on becoming an important part of Häcken’s attack. She hopes to contribute goals and offensive threat for the rest of the season. Her experience from multiple countries and clubs gives her a broad skill set that can strengthen Häcken’s playing style. With the new player in the squad, Häcken is expected to continue its successful journey in Swedish football.
